How to Wear Python Print to the Office

I know what you are thinking – python? to work? I don’t think so. Well, it may be a bit unconventional, but I don’t think it’s totally out of the question – if done correctly. In fact, I am a firm believer that animal prints in general can be worn in an office setting -without sacrificing your professionalism- if you use these simple rules as a guide:

Keep things simple and classic.

I would recommend limiting the animal print to one piece- either in your clothing, shoes or accessories. You definitely do not want to go with a head to toe animal print look. I would also pair the print with solid neutral colors. Black is a classic and appropriate option that I think can tone down the print to a point that keeps things professional. Simple or minimal jewelry will also help keep the look office-appropriate.

Choose a work appropriate silhouette

For skirts, length is important. A python skirt in a too short length will inevitably attract negative attention. Any too short skirt will, actually. But make it a too short animal print skirt… not a winning combination – at least at work! I love these prints in the midi length. This particular skirt is a true wrap style so it is adjustable and flattering on every body type!

If you are going for an animal print top, make sure the cut is more on the conservative side. You do not want to show too much cleavage while wearing a shirt that is already an attention grabber! I usually don’t have that problem but if I am wearing a top that is a bit lower cut, I will offset that by making sure it has long sleeves.

Be mindful of the print

While I do think that wearing prints to the office is totally doable and a great way to show your sense of style and personality, choosing the right prints is important. Animal prints that stay in more neutral tones – like this python- are perfect because they pull classic office appropriate colors – black, white, and grey. If you are doing a leopard print, try to keep it in the standard brown and black tones.

I would avoid wearing animal print that is too large or colorful. You don’t want to end up looking like you drew inspiration from your 4th grade Lisa Frank folders. (Which I am totally here for if that is your vibe… just not at your office job!) If you do want to wear bold colors to the office, you totally can! But it’s usually best for those to be in solid pieces.

Always wear with confidence!

Do not be afraid to turn some heads! Yes, you may draw some extra attention to yourself by deviating from the normal black pencil skirt. But that is not necessarily a bad thing! When you present yourself with confidence, people notice. And as long as you are doing so while keeping a professional appearance and demeanor, you really can’t go wrong.

What do you think? Would you wear this look to the office? The great thing is that pieces like this can be worn both dressed up or casually- so if you like the print, go for it!

Until next time,

Jannette
