My Postpartum Uniform – The Midi Skirt

The midi skirt is my go-to these days. It’s comfortable, feminine and can actually be very flattering. Gone are the days where midi-skirts are deemed “grandma-ish,” at least in my mind! While pencil skirts are the office norm, I definitely think the midi has a place in the corporate world!

My favorite thing about the midi skirt is the LENGTH. Even though I’m short (I’m 5’2), my body type makes it hard to wear some skirts that fall above the knee, especially at work. When you have a butt and thighs… skirts just fit different. They inherently look shorter than they really are. You look like you’re showing a lot of leg… well, because you have more leg to show! And don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with showing a little leg, girlfriend! But in a professional workplace, you do want to be mindful of this.

Whether we like it or not, how you dress plays a major role in how you are viewed and treated when you work in an office or corporate setting. I’m sure that statement applies to a lot of other work environments too. Especially as a woman. Especially if you are in management. Wearing clothes that are deemed “too revealing” can present an issue in many industries, and may even hold you back in your career. It’s dumb, I know. But I think you can find a happy medium- clothes that make you feel like yourself, but also encourage the haters to take you seriously. For me- the midi skirt is it. Subtle and polished, versatile and office friendly. I love that you can switch it up and there are so many shapes and styles in this length!

My favorite iteration of the midi skirt is definitely the pleated midi. Super flattering, flowy, and perfect for hiding any bumps and lumps. It’s the perfect balance between comfort and looking put together. I like to pair mine with a white button up, cozy sweater, or a silky cami and blazer.

I’d love to hear what you all think of the midi skirt! Leave me a comment!

Until next time,

Jannette
